Frederic Geissmann
Chair of Immunology
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
USA
Biography
Dr. Frederic Geissmann gained a medical degree in clinical haematology in 1996 and a PhD in Immunology in 1999, both from the University of Paris (France), and was a Post-doctoral Fellow of Dr Dan Littman in New York from 2000 to 2003. His research is focused on cellular and molecular mechanisms that control the differentiation, maintenance, and physiological functions of macrophages and monocytes and their roles in tissue homeostasis and disease processes. The Geissmann lab is now building on previous work to investigate mechanisms by which tissue macrophages may control tissue growth and metabolism and whether these same mechanisms play a role in cancer initiation and development. He is a recipient of a number of prestigious awards, including the European Young Investigator (Euryi) award, the European Research Council Investigator award and the Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator award.
